e-Referral Development

Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network is developing the SeNT electronic referral (e-Referral) solution, in collaboration with Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD).

It's a structured electronic document that can be sent electronically and securely from one primary care provider to another, including both public and private specialist services.

The e-Referral offers the opportunity to support a better exchange of information in a pre-defined format. Clinical content, and associated decision support, is sourced directly from HealthPathways, with structured clinical-based templates sourcing appropriate content directly from the primary care provider’s practice management software.

The SeNT e-referral system will be phased in over the long-term. This will ensure ongoing improvements to be made to the system.

Phase One involves deployment of e-Referrals across seven specialty services from 20 General Practices within the Greater Newcastle region.

There are up to 97 different patient conditions/issues to select from, the seven specialty services including both public and private providers.

The system went live on June 14, 2016.
