UCCs are a new model of care designed to reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments (EDs) and give Medicare card holders more options to see a healthcare professional when they have an urgent but not life-threatening need for care. They will be GP led with a multidisciplinary staffing mix.

UCCs will be based in existing general practices where access to pharmacy, radiology and pathology services are readily available or located in close proximity. UCCs will be open during business hours and after hours, including weekends/ public holidays. There will be no out-of-pocket cost to the patient.

Funding:

Providers operating a UCC will receive:

  • A base operating grant that covers labour and non-labour costs

  • Additional funding for Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging plus additional loadings

  • Access to eligible MBS items and be eligible for the expanded triple bulk billing incentive

Further information on funding will be made available on registration for the UCC tender, through the PHN.
