Bush GP Recruitment Grants - NENW and Upper Hunter regions

In response to the shortage of rurally based General Practitioners (GPs) the HNECC Primary Health Network (The PHN) is pleased to offer general practice recruitment incentive grants for general practitioner recruitment, supported by Welcome Ambassador grants.

Recently The PHN funded a Sea Change grant program, designed to encourage GP relocation into the Central Coast, which resulted in thirty-seven practices receiving grants to assist with recruitment activities, and twelve additional GPs commencing practice.

The Better Health for the Bush - Bush GP Recruitment Grants Program will be made up of three components:

  1. 20 x Recruitment Starter Grants - $2,500 per general practice (available in selected LGAs)
  2. 6 x Bush GP Incentive Grants - $25,000 per general practice (available in selected LGAs)
  3. 6 x Welcome Ambassador service - valued up to $10,000 (available in selected LGAs)

The following LGA locations are eligible for this grant round:

  • Mehi - Moree, Narrabri, Gwydir LGA
  • Tablelands - Inverell, Tenterfield, Glen Innes, Armidale LGA
  • Plains – Uralla, Walcha, Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains LGA
  • Upper Hunter – Merriwa, Aberdeen, Scone, Murrurundi LGA
  • Tamworth LGA

Recruitment Starter Grants x 20

The $2,500 Recruitment Starter Grants are designed to support General Practice in their recruitment activities. They may be used to implement new or innovative recruitment strategies, develop Employee Value Propositions, develop recruitment videos, update recruitment adverts, or retain the services of a recruitment consultant.

These grants will assist General Practice owners consider new and innovative ways of recruiting and provide them with a means to kick start their recruitment activities.

GP Incentive Grants x 6

The GP incentive grants will be provided the General Practice upon the signing of a new GP from outside of the HNECC PHN region of a two year/minimum three days per week contract. The grant supports a General Practice to negotiate with a GP and provide funds to assist with expenses such as:

  • wage supplement to enhance leave entitlements
  • initial rent or mortgage payments for 3 months
  • professional fees such as AHPRA and insurance
  • costs associated with recruitment advertising and contracting

Eligible activities for the funding will be communicated to the General Practice and appropriate documentation will be requested to support payments. The grant funding is provided to the General Practice, and it is in their discretion for allocation within the above parameters.

The General Practice would receive $15,000 grant from the PHN upon commencement of the GP providing evidence of MBS billings and an additional $10,000 grant upon evidence of six months continuous employment.

As a General Practice works through the recruitment process and identify a potential candidate, they can be provisionally allocated the grant so they can use the funding as a key negotiating tool.

Welcome Ambassador Grants x 6

To increase the likelihood of relocating GPs and their families settling in well to new towns, each practice receiving the GP Incentive Grant would be allocated a Welcome Ambassador service.

Application Details:

To apply for the $2500 Recruitment Starter Grant, complete the online application form, upload your tax invoice and upload an updated supplier registration form (template in right-hand panel).
Upon completion, payments will be made directly to the practice bank account. (Please allow up to 15 business days for processing).

Invoice Instructions:

  • All grant recipients are entitled to $2,500 exclusive of GST
    -If you are registered for GST, please invoice for the Amount $2,500 plus GST $250
    -If you are NOT registered for GST, please invoice for $2,500 only
  • In the description of the Invoice please list GRA.252 Bush GP Recruitment Starter Grants
  • Please ensure the Invoice is directed to one of the following names (As invoices outside of this list will be rejected, and a request for re-submission will be made)
    -HNECC Pty Ltd.
    -HNECCPHN.
    -Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network.
